Okay, so you might not actually live to be a hundred but playing golf has been proven to bring tremendous health benefits. Whether you want to engage in a weight loss program or include a bit of weight training in your regular cardio workout, playing a game of golf is both fun and healthy.
First things first, taking a swing in golf provides one with a cardiovascular workout. Essentially, any exercise or activity which leaves you a bit short of breath and makes you break a sweat is good for your heart and cardiovascular system. Plus, it also decreases the number of bad cholesterol in your body. Playing golf also speeds up your body’s metabolism thereby making you easily lose weight. Believe it or not, playing a round of golf causes you to burn as much as 300 calories.
Specifically, this could be achieved if you play for an hour while at the same time carry the golf clubs yourself. However, if you prefer to go the easy route and take a golf cart instead, you will still be able to burn as much as 230 calories. Take note that the numbers indicated herein applies to you if your weight is 150 pounds.
You also need to remember that exercises which allow you to bear a bit of weight are good for your bones. Do note that doing weight-bearing activities at least two or three times per week could help you achieve long, strong and lean muscles. In order to add in a few weight-bearing exercises in your golf game, do not be afraid to carry your own clubs. If you do not want to strain your shoulders, use a golf bag which possess double straps. Playing golf also gives you tons of opportunity to get all the the vitamin D you want. Plus, your source is as natural as it could ever be – the sun. Vitamin D is important as it helps in building strong bones. It also regulates phosphorus and calcium in the body and regulates skin cell growth.
So what are you waiting for? Grab your club, spend a fun day under the sun and start hitting those balls through the greens. Just make sure though that prior to starting any health regimen, you have properly consulted your trusted doctor.
